It has come to our attention that there has
been a considerable amount of "dropping" down in class due to this event's
National status. We have discussed this issue with the NEPG (who works directly
with the AMA), and we have gotten a final ruling from Chuck Weir, who is the
Off-Road Racing Manager for the AMA.
Here is the OFFICIAL RULING, and all protests will be handled according to this ruling:
NEPG Supplemental rules (which can be obtained here), under "National Classes", Item #2 states:
It is the rider's responsibility to enter the proper class. Failure to do so will result in the loss of all points earned. Example: If you ride the "A" class locally must enter the "A" class nationally.
The NEPG has verified with the AMA, that if a rider that runs another type series (HS, MX, etc.), and has not been promoted to the "A" class by the AMA Enduro advancement points system, that rider CAN ride the “B” class at an Enduro. Note, however, according to AMA rules (obtained here) page 37, Section B, #2 states:
Participation in or advancement to a higher class in any AMA or non-AMA activity by any rider will result in permanent advancement to that higher class (in like activity) in all AMA-sanctioned competition. (Like activity=MX to MX or Enduro to Enduro, etc.)
So what does it all mean?
1 - If your AMA card has an
"A" stamped after the member number, you must run "A" class, in Enduros only.
2 - If you have EVER run the "A" class at ANY enduro, you must run
"A" class.
3 - If you have EVER run a higher class at ANY enduro than you have
entered here, you must change your entry to that higher class. (i.e. If you
have ever run "B" class at an enduro, you CAN NOT run "C" here).
4 - You can drop down in class ONLY if you have appealed to your District (if it
is chartered), or the AMA, and been granted the appeal, to drop from "A" to
"B". Once you have become a "B" rider or above, you may NEVER, under any
circumstances, drop back to "C".
If you think you may need to protest a rider you feel is riding the wrong class, it will be up to you to provide proof he is in the wrong class. (i.e. Newspaper clipping, magazine article, website printout, etc. showing the rider has competed in a like event and in a higher class than he is entered here.) Any rider who competes in the Sumter National Enduro that is found not to be in compliance of these rules and regulations will be immediately disqualified from the event.
